Canada’s New Government Changes Logo Again…

May 14, 2007 at 8:53 pm 20 comments

We all know that Harpo, Zeppo and Groucho changed the Government logo to ‘Canada’s New Government’…but when did they go to a different look? Why, I must have missed something while away…looks like the writers and producers of the B-rate continuuing ‘Who Dropped the Soap Opera’ series decided to go back to a neurtral look. However, the website still has the Prime Mordial’s page with the ‘New Government’ logo.

The NEW new logo says, ‘The True North Strong and Free’ .
Huh? Hey, I’m a terrorist and insurgent givng myself up because I support Native Sovereignty…maybe they’ll finally come get me for liberating the graphic and putting on it what it should say: ‘Our Home and NATIVE Land’ –

What’s REALLY disturbing is the ad on Canada’s site:
Is that ‘JOIN US’, or ‘JOIN U.S.’?
Too bad this version of the ad appeared tonight because earlier they had a great one full of subliminals….it looked like the torso of a soldier in the clouds, baring a hard-on. Hmmmm.

Meantime, Shawn Brandt ihas been charged for being part of a group of natives who stopped CN trains from running across the 6N rez ….oh gee, wonder why the trains were stopped? Maybe THE GOVERNMENT (gasp!) should have been tied across the tracks instead, just like Dudley Dooright coming upon Nell being placed there by Snidley Whiplash. Oh my, this ‘Who Dropped the Soap Opera’ is getting worse!!! Perhaps Shawn should file a counter claim.

Now why won’t come and arrest me?????? I liberate graphics from them, drive without a seatbelt, jaywalk, write about sovereignty, research ‘for the cause’ and promote it. what am I, chopped pemican or something?

I’ve even given them loads of search terms….am I really going to have to turn myself in, are they THAT lazy? Sheesh.

Shouldn’t that be “our home ON native land”?

  • 2. Q  |  May 15, 2007 at 2:54 am

    Good search terms, eh?

I was looking up ‘Don Messer, Celine Dion, strange psychosers ‘ and found this post or ‘naked female bob sleders in toques’ works too.

Why do you hate Canada, the troops and baby Jesus? Come join US with glowing hearts.

Why not join U.S? You will then have the licence to mass murder through “shock and awe”, torture people and do whatever pleases you. Even carry out genocide. There will be no murder charges against you and you will be given medals of bravery and become an instant national hero. George W. and Stevie Harper will personally thank you and your family. What is wrong with that deal?

  • 4. Lord Kitchener's Own  |  May 15, 2007 at 6:05 am

Just for the record, none of these are government of Canada logos, they’re just the graphics that appear at the top of the webpages.

As for the new new graphic, I’m not sure what’s so bad about it, but your own option only says what you think it says because you capitlaized NATIVE. The “native” in “home and native land” has nothing to do with aboriginal Canadians. If anything, that phrase is much worse than “true North strong and free” as a tagline, as “native”, in the context it’s used in the anthem is actually quite exclusionary. What it really implies is that this is “our” homeland for “natives” of Canada, meaning those of us born here. The meaning of the phrase is actually much more “Canada for Canadians” than “Yeah Native sovereignty”. It wasn’t written to mean “First Nations” it was written to mean “born and bred”.

Now, admittedly, you’ve adjusted the meaning by CAPITALIZING native, but still, I just don’t see what’s so wrong with “True North Strong and Free” as a pithy little tagline for government webpages.

Q, i checked my blog stat search terms and see you arrived here by punching in ‘insurent canadian beavers’….i assume you mean the little creature with buck teeth? my heart glows , nay, burns for for US.

The Anon… are perfectly right, of course, and i plan on going on a massive spree to lock up all those who even whisper against our deeply integrated continent… i get a kickback or is this purely patriotic duty?

Lord Kitchener, welcome….really now? does the tag line mean all that :). you’re either new here or someone who frequents and is pulling my leg. NATIVE was capitilized because ultimatley, this is NATIVE land. welcome to kanata….please sign the guest book at the door and take a seat to the right….someone will be with you soon.

Oh, I get what you’re saying Harper Valley, I’m just saying that your use of native is not what Robert Stanley Weir meant by the word when he wrote the lyrics. That’s why your capitalisation is so important, in that it puts the emphasis on NATIVE, making it clear that you’re using the word as a synonym for “First Nations”. Weir almost certainly did NOT mean to imply that the land of Canada was “native land” as in “belonging to the First Nations”, he meant “native land” as in “the land of which we (a collective we) are native”. He’s using the word as in “I’m a native of Canada” while you’re using the word as in “I’m a Native (i.e. a member of the First Nations)”.

Frankly, I think BOTH could be seen as offensive. One implies that I, as a non-“Native” Canadian, am less Canadian, and that this country is less mine than it is another Canadian’s who is “Native”. The other implies that I, as a “native” Canadian (as in, “born in Canada”) am somehow more a Canadian, or have a deeper attachment to the country than a recent immigrant born elsewhere.

I’d bet that’s why they use “True North Strong and Free” instead.

    Lord Kitchener’s Own,
Let us face it that crimes have been committed by so-called “new-comers” against Natives, against Chinese people, against Japanese people and against other minorities. Some of those crimes are on going. Our justice system is very corrupt. There is need for atonement and fairness. What you suggest should be done?

  • 9. Lord Kitchener's Own  |  May 15, 2007 at 8:50 am

I seem to have somehow left the impression that I’m “anti-native” if one is to take Anon’s post above, and I wanted to hasten to correct the impression.

I actually LIKE the “home and NATIVE land” tagline. I smiled when I read it. I detest how we’ve treated the First Nations, and while I’m not sure what’s to be done, I agree things need to be done.

I just wanted to point out the irony that the original lyrics are actually quite different as Weir intended them, to the sentiment they express in the example above. Almost OPPOSITE, ironically, one might argue.

My pseudonym may have led to my remarks coming off differently than intended. I’m not some “colonialist”. I come from Kitchener originally, and I always loved those WWI posters with Lord Kitchener pointing out to the viewer saying “Are you one of Kitchener’s Own?” because, having been born there, in a sense, I literally AM one of “Kitchener’s Own”. Ironically, like this post, I took a phrase and changed it’s originaly meaning byu changing the emphasis! My pseudonym came from that. (I’m a native of Kitchener, lol).

  • 10. harpervalley  |  May 15, 2007 at 10:55 am

yes, yes, lord k….i was playing on weir’s words. i am not familiar with that poster you speak of. anyways, in the end north america is made up of several different indigenous nations….known as ‘turtle island’ as a whole. the settlers created their own governments and the division of mexico, canada and the united states.

the settlers can continue to have their own government, and first nations can have their own, not under the juristiction of the aforementioned governments. you see, those governments are illegal actually. they have never followed queen anne’s proclamations so act in fraud and treason unto themselves. treaties have never been honoured, blah blah blah.

basically all land is under the stewardship of the women of first nations….never to be sold. all that we call ‘canada’ is in fact traditional territories of various first nations.

everyone’s welcome to stay…it will be a matter of charging lease rights to those who do. not such a big deal. the exploitation of the land (minerals, resources etc.) would be far better managed and sustainable…the fat cats wouldn’t just benefit.

so you see…..’newcomers’ do benefit in several ways. antoher way is the continuued genocide ends, and the canadian tax payer benefits because all the stalling of what is actually legal and rule of law will end, thus saving immense court costs. the department of indian affairs would fold, thank gawd.

you are not an original colonist ….you come from colonial stock, or ‘settler’ stock. nothing wrong with that as long as you recognize what’s taking place and recognize the law, which is being disregarded.

as The Anon points out, there is need for fairness and atonement. i know i always like to atone before brushing my teeth…wait, does atone mean sprucing up?

    anyways, join in the fun!!!
