Where I’m staying now…

This is at a place called Kawa, where Uncle lives. I’m staying here, sans electricity and running water. It’s pretty crude but comfortable and people bring fish, ice and da kine for Uncle. He didn’t want me to post his picture but you can see a u-tube of him at

The developers and government are trying to take over Kawa and make it into a protected park….only Uncle owns the title. This man is kanahiki of the land and knows every plant, rock , you name it from the sea to the mountain. Being his kuliana (responsibility) and following land kapu (the ultimate in sustainability) he has intimate knowledge and the land, sea and it’s history. No Phd. could touch what he does or knows.

I had a nap today and woke up because a mongoose was on me!!! Cheeky devil. They sneak in to steal fruit and what not.

Uncle makes things the old way and I rub kakui nut oil that’s worth a fortune but he’d never sell , all over me. It’s quite pungent, and between that and not having had a proper bath for a week now, well, it’s not a smell for everyone but the oil grows on you. …and it keeps the mosquitoes away πŸ™‚

Uncle says I am now ready to utilize everything I’ve learned, apply it and teach it. I feel the strength of my mana (spirit) coming through way, way stronger when I do work on people. This is thanks to people like Uncle and my sisters in my spirit circle back home. Nothing like some teaching, training and guidance to help focus your gift. Hmmm, best wash up somehow if someone calls on me (well, I worked on a camper the other day and they never said anything about the zone of p.u. I’m putting out).

This weekend I meet again with a woman kahuna , which will be good to learn more of the wahine side of Hawaiian healing. Yay!!!!

Coolio…good to see you’re doing well. Maui was great, and we got up Haleakala and balanced some things up there. We could see you waaaaaay off in the distance:

    Balanced at Haleakala, Maui

    Luv you!

  • 2. Q  |  January 23, 2007 at 4:09 am

Scout, you’re staying in a tree house! That’s too cool. Well it looks like it would be cool up a tree.

Mongoose! Don’t they kill cobras? You have to start sleeping higher up in that place. Happy healings.

  • 3. Jeff Msangi  |  January 23, 2007 at 9:08 am

I love the place, such a true untold story of nature!

  • 4. scout  |  January 23, 2007 at 5:53 pm

chris!!!! glad maui was good to you and vice versa! i may have waved at you while you weren’t looking, ya never know πŸ™‚ . ahui ho, will check out your pics later.

Q, it has the appearance of a tree house but isn’t..hang on i have to run and pee. there, that’s better. ya, mongoose kill cobras. they were brought over to the big island to eradicate poisonous snakes , way back. prob is they hawaiian birds mostly nest on the ground so the indigenous bird population here is almost wiped out.

i talked with the mongeese today and told them to stay within certain paramaters or they’ll get pegged with a bb gun. so far so good, but they’re so cheeky they’ll be back by tonight. wait, if i shoot and injure them i’ll have to heal them. hmm.

jeff, yup, it’s a pretty cool place. one of these days i’ll pos t some scenic shots instead of outdoor laundramats and da kine πŸ™‚

Oooh, I love it. That little animule, is that a mongoose? Cute.

  • 6. Wandering Coyote  |  January 24, 2007 at 1:59 pm

Sounds like you’re having a rewarding time and that you have great teachers there. What does da kine mean? You see it a lot but I really have no idea what it’s supposed to mean…

  • 7. scout  |  January 24, 2007 at 4:02 pm

jj….just up in town to get propane. oh ya , they LOOK cute but they are viscious with double rowed teeth and will eat anything in site, poo all over, and breed like rats. they are big rats.

coyote….ya, great teachers! ‘da kine” means ‘the kind’, so they say ‘you know, da kine like measures things’, which means a tape measure πŸ™‚

  • 8. Chris Corrigan  |  January 26, 2007 at 3:18 am

    da kine = whatchamacallit

  • 9. jj  |  January 26, 2007 at 7:44 am

Rats! *urk* I guess it’s not so cute after all. Something that big, crapping all over the place I could do without.

Your little house is cool, though! I love it!

  • 10. scout  |  January 26, 2007 at 5:10 pm

    chris, ha, right on!!!

jj…ya, kinda dissapointing because when you first see them you think they are cute little varmints. then the shit happens. to date we have put about 6 in little mongoose coffins. uncle is the sargeant, a beach surfer guy is lieuftenant and i’m private auntie. learning the ropes with a bb gun is interesting…..i’ve only bagged one so far.
it’s been a looooooong time since i’ve played with guns.

    Aloha! You’ve been tagged.
    http://yayacanada.blogspot.com/2007/01/ive-been-tagged.html

But not necessary for you to respond since you seem pretty busy with the mongeese (mongooses?) and the p.u. factor. πŸ™‚

  • 12. Amelopsis  |  January 28, 2007 at 6:41 am

So good to see things going well there (feeling better) and I’m glad you can share with us. It certainly seems to be a special place with special people.

    Good wishes!

  • 13. Youngfox  |  January 29, 2007 at 7:18 am

    Oh, man that looks nice!
Remember, it is better to stink while doing good things than it is to smell like flowers while wading in mediocre shit.

Glad you’ve shaken your affliction and endeavoured to learn some “lost arts”.
You are fortunate that you have relatives who are willing to pass down such traditions and even more so that you have the disposition and character to undertake the accumulation of such knowledge.

    Don’t forget to come home.
Neo-Canada would become all the more fugly if it lost its best Scout to the warm humid air of the South Pacific.

  • 14. verbena19  |  January 30, 2007 at 2:00 pm

Scout, it sure looks very cute and rustic. It’s great that you’re feeling better and learning lots of wonderful natural healing. Way to go! But don’t forget to come back, ok? Canada can’t afford to lose its best Scout, like Youngfox said.

I’d sure like to go with you next year, even if for only a month, since I can’t leave my sick uncle alone for too long…

Take care, have fun, and learn lots! Don’t forget to send some of the healing thoughts my way too, I sure could use some here in the freezing, snowy North… brrr!

  • 15. verbena19  |  January 30, 2007 at 2:04 pm

P.S. Maybe you could come for a visit to my place in the summer?? Think about it, anyway…

Stay well and keep those mongeese (is that the plural of mongoose?) off yourself!
    in spirit, am πŸ™‚

  • 16. verbena19  |  January 30, 2007 at 2:06 pm

    Another p.s.:

btw, you haven’t updated the link to my website to show the new WP site: http://verbena19.wordpress.com

    … when you have time… ? πŸ™‚

  • 17. phee  |  January 30, 2007 at 5:12 pm

Hey Scout–you’re in Hawaii!!! Wow! I’m jealous, though Hornby is pretty nice in its own way considering the weather.

Mongooses (mongeese?) sound a lot like possums, which are a problem here. Big rats with scary teeth that point every which way… possums even have the long naked tails of rats… how long you there for?

    Good for you, enjoy πŸ™‚
