Sacred Spot

This is the Aloha Heiau (hay ow), one of the most sacred spot on the Big Isle. A heiau is like an alter, it’s a simple wooden structure with a platform where offerings of food, flowers etc. are left. The Aloha spirit is not just ‘hello, welcome, everybody be nice’…it’s very deep, a living, breathing way of life with love as it’s beginning, middle and final chapter…except it’s not a book and there is no end. Gee, wonder wherer the ‘christians’ went wrong?

This tract of land is where the Aloha Spirit resides and spreads out from….the people reclaimed it a few years ago.

The Hawaiians were dubbed savages by the missionaries , savage meaning no soul. They felt they had to convert them and make them ‘human’. The Hawaiians dubbed the visitors ‘haoli’ (howl ee), meaning ‘without breathe, without life’ as could not understand why these people shook hands and did not hug and breathe together. Basically their attitude was more ‘feeling badly’ for the white people. Gee, wonder why?

To hug the Hawaiian way, the Aloha way, is to touch noses, hug and breathe in together. As the exhale comes there’s a sensation of relaxation , both ‘sink down’ a few inches’ and knots come undone. Carry this on for a few minutes and both will collapse on the ground in laughter….it’s one of the most enjoyable things I can think of.

Haoli later become a dergogatory term for whites then just a blanket term. Many Hawaiians still possess the aloha spirit, some don’t , not being able to overcome their anger. ‘Aloha’ is the term Hawaiians use for what existed (exists) in many indigenous cultures, including European ones (until Christianity).

Perhaps what’s needed is a new video game called ‘Killed By Love’…where the ‘winning team’ smothers it’s enemies with heart and evil is done in by breathe.

In your honour, Scout, we’ll be dropping in at the Aloha Room in Ottawa sometime this weekend. One of the best divey dive faux-tiki bar places in Canada.

What a great post. I love how indigenous people were so in touch with their environmnents and their spirituality, only to have Christians come and impose something completely unnatural on them. The Hawaiians were not the only victims of nasty missioniaries, as you know. And it’s still happening today in some places! It pisses me off.

hey scout, nice place you are in!

so sad that many supremacists still possess that kind of mentality today

What an amazing, lovely, spiritual place you’re in, Scout! Grate photo… I am truly happy for you… πŸ™‚ Hawaii brings back fond memories…

Oh yes, the ‘haolis’… The ‘god-fearing’ missionaries committed heinous crimes against the gentle Hawaiians, just like they did to the indigenous peoples of S. America and elsewhere, and continue to do to this day. As a race, the ‘white race’ wreaked/wreaks the most havoc on this planet and everything upon it…

I wish Hawaiians would regain their autonomy, and break away from the U.S. They should not be a ‘state’ of such a corrupt, diseased ’empire’. Sadly, this would not be accomplished without bloodshed, as once the US owns something, it will not give it up without a fight.

Anyway, enough of my half-asleep ramblings. Enjoy the lovely place and have fun. You deserve it!

    in spirit, amd πŸ™‚

What an amazing, lovely, spiritual place! Brings back fond memories…

I love the real Hawaiians, not the haolis… What the missionaries did to the gentle indigenous people of those enchanted islands is beyond criminal. They did/still do the same to indigenous people in S. America and elsewhere, actually everywhere these self-righteous, narrow-minded supremacist bigots go. They taint and destroy everything they touch…

Have a wonderful time and enjoy! You deserve it!
    in spirit~ am πŸ™‚

Obama is the gentle warrior, one who unifies and not divides…it’s about time we all learn to get along peacefully and accept all cultures…as a white woman, I love his message of hope!
