Eddie and Lumpy Pick on The Beav

November 21, 2006 at 11:57 pm 13 comments

Eddie Bush and Lumpy Harper. Or is that George Haskell and Stephen Rutherford? Take your pick but either way they’re picking on The Beaver again. Yes, let this be a metaphor for Canada….Leave it to Beaver. Without bully politicians we were once the ‘nice country’, with nice, polite, apathetic people. With the antics of Eddy and Lumpy, we sold our soul to become a second-rate sidekick to the biggest creep of all times. What would June and Ward say???

Beaver: Hey guys, get off me.
Eddie: No way kid. We’re gonna make you feel like a goon.
Lumpy: Gimme your lunch, goon.
Beaver: No way Lumpy Dumpy the big fat hairy ape!
Lumpy: I’m telling my dad!
Eddie: You better cooperate kid or…..Oh! Good afternoon, Mrs. Cleaver. We were just helping Theodore up from falling.
Mrs. Cleaver: That’s very nice of you boys. I’ll see you later I have to go for tea at Mrs. Whitehead’s.
Eddie: Give it up, Beav, we want all your allowance too.
Beaver: Wally says you’re such a creep cauze you work at it.
Eddie: Lumpy, noogie the guy wil ya?
Lumpy: Ya sure Eddie, but I’m kinda hungry.
Eddie: Gosh Lumpy, gimme your wallet and I’ll get Beaver’s lunch for ya.
Lumpy: Duh’ya, o.k.
Ward: Beaver, are you all right?
Beaver: Ya kinda dad, but these guys are hassling me.
Ward: Well now, Beaver, time to go inside then. Your mother left a cool glass of water, a piece of chocolate log, and your favorite oily peanut butter. Goodbye then.
Eddie: Come on Lumpy, let’s go get Beaver’s stuff!!!
Beaver: What a gyp.

*It’s almost too ironic how these t.v. characters are so much like Harper and Bush. Check out Eddie Haskell and Lumpy Rutherford.

** thanks to Q from North of Center for suggesting Bush as Eddie.

Yes Eddie and Lumpy were classic two faced bullying republicans. I guess the Beav who was an honest goof could be Howard Dean.
Nobody had parents as sweet and understanding as Ward and June… rip off.

  • 2. harpervalley  |  November 22, 2006 at 10:23 am

Q, i like the beav as howard dean….june and ward , what a gyp (as theodore and wallace would say)….actually, now i’m wnderng if ‘gyp’ came from ‘gypsy’. hmmm.

  • 3. Bill-Muskoka  |  November 22, 2006 at 10:53 am

EGADS! I have spent much of my life trying to forget LITB and ‘The Nelsons’!

    Talk about fantasy lifestyles?

At least I was able to rescue my brain from the assault of ‘The Brady Bunch’!

Talk about propaganda? Those were the ultimate suburbia perfect family, all is well, see how good life is POS?

  • 4. harpervalley  |  November 22, 2006 at 11:25 am

bill, they were the ultimate cold war fantasy programs and nuclear families,, and didn’t we (well i did) wish we had ward and june as parents (well, not really, they were pretty sucky and my parents were very young and not square….L-7 i mean, but the stability was foreign to me).

oh the brady bunch disgusted me!!! at least litb had great characters. bb had nothing! but interestng to note the nuclear family had moved on in sitcoms to reflect that most families were blends (did the brady bunch ever mention if they were divorced or widowed? maybe not….). what is POS?

  • 5. Bill-Muskoka  |  November 22, 2006 at 12:25 pm

Okay, I’ll trade you labels! What does L-7 mean?

POS = Piece of Shit…you know like Will Smith referred to the MIB Ford! LMAO

I always liked Bill Cosby…Real, funny, and always had a moral to it.

Then came silly shows like ‘Friends’, and the worst was Seinfeld. What an arrogant jerk. Kramer was at least funny. The cast of ‘Taxi’ were the best. I can still LMAO at some of the exchanges.

Newhart was…a great sleep inducer. Nowadays I do not watch any of them. I watched very few in the past so it wa easy to go totally away from them.

Gotta run…another meeting to attend. Tomorrow ma ami!

  • 6. harpervalley  |  November 22, 2006 at 1:49 pm

bill, L:-7 means square (put your left fingers to form the letter L, then your right fingers to form the number 7. put them up against each other and you have a square).

cosby was funny…..too bad he’s a repug in real life. now come on, i loved friends and seinfeld!!!! kramer was hilarious but i just read that he went ape-shit on a heckler in a standup routinge and shouted racist remarks. newhart…i loved newhart!!!! boy do we have different tastes πŸ™‚

we’re not hooked up to cable but i got a dvd set of the bevely hillbillies (one of the best comedies ever) at our local library sale. my husband got old benny hill shows. now there’s the top goof of all times! i’m going to look out for absolutley fabulous discs.

Haven’t heard that racial epithet since this summer’s NDP policy convention on CPAC.

….took 4 minutes for a delegate to grab the mike and motion to strike the word.

  • 8. Bill-Muskoka  |  November 23, 2006 at 9:37 am

LOL! If we were all the same then it would be a dull and boring world, eh? Now Beverly Hillbilly’s was hilarious, and Ellie May, well it was a toss up between her and Daisy Mae for the best short shorts! LOL

Your hubby and I could have a Benny Hill hestival and be laughing for days. BH was HILARIOUS! My all time favorits has been, and most likely will remain ‘Monty Python’s Flying Circus’!

We went to see Spamalot at the Toronto theater and laughed till our sides hurt. They managed to capture all the silliness of ‘Holy Grail’ on stage. It was funnier than words can describe.

I am, fortunately I think, old enough to remember Red Skelton (who I had the honour of personally meeting way back in another galaxy far, far away). He was the most human of people you could ever meet. He laughed at life, himself, and gave us all the beautiful ability to smile even through adversity.

There was Jack Benny, dry humour, but Rodchester was a hoot and a half. Amos & Andy were hilarious as well. The Marx Brothers, Three Stooges (Niagra Falls will live forever), Lucy & Desi, Abbot & Costello (Who’s on first?), and now my mind is smoking from deep recall.

The only one I never got to like was Bob Hope…he always came across disingenuine and stuffy to me!

Those were good days before profanity, and hate became the art du jour!

  • 9. JJ  |  November 23, 2006 at 9:44 am

    “Gyp” is indeed a racial epithet. Sort of the equivalent of saying “he jewed me down on the price”. Have to admit I used the word “gyp” when I was a little kid, but never “jewed” (my great-granny was jewish). Those were the days {eye-roll}

  • 10. Annamarie  |  November 23, 2006 at 7:49 pm

Funny stuff, Scout, as always! LMAO…. And I learned what L7 means… Thanks!

Bill, I remember Red Skelton too, and always liked those clowns he used to paint with the big, sad eyes… Nice man, he was… I remember all those people you mention, so I must be in your age group… Nostalgia, eh? Oh the old days!

JJ, although the origin of the word “gyp” is not quite known, there are several meanings, according to Oxford:

gyp 1) – slang for to cheat, swindle. (19th century)

gyp 2) – Brit. colloq. for pain, severe discomfort; a scolding

gyp 3) – n. Brit. a college servant at Cambridge and Durham (perhaps from gippo scullion, orig. a man’s short tunic)

I honestly did not think that it had any racial connotations, as it has no known relation to ‘gypsy’. I always thought it meant ‘cheated out of something’, and used it as such in the past. (He gypped me out of my change, etc.) However, I could be wrong. It may have racial tones nowadays. I haven’t heard it for a long time….

Scout, nice to see you’re way up there on the Blog Awards list! Way to go!! I’ll keep voting for you, as you’re simply the best! πŸ™‚

  • 11. Annamarie  |  November 23, 2006 at 7:52 pm

Sorry, I forgot to close the Italics after gippo… ooops!

  • 12. harpervalley  |  November 23, 2006 at 11:23 pm

sheena, i missed out on that one! just think of all the expressions we used as kids and didnt know they were racial slurs till we were older….gulp!

JJ, ha, i remember saying ‘jewed’ and getting chewed out for it…i don’t think the folks were aware of what ‘gyp’ meant.

bill…..i go along with most of your memory lane faves there, but never like lucy and desi (although i respect her tremendously for what she did for women in t.v.). never got into amos and andy. oh! w.c. fields was a great fave!!!! despite kiddy rights and all i still think hes hilarious and kids flying across the room from his boot.

annamarie, you’re fired for not turning off the italics!!! interesting about ‘gyp’ and the different meaning. hmmm. and may thanks for the congrats and compliments, but then again ive paid you well enough (another hot czech should arrive at midnight as per usual arrangements)
