Calling all Bloggers – It’s Who You Know That Counts…

While I am safe and tucked away, I got beat up by a guy at the shelter I was in (only sustaining bruises). Shelter policy is that both involved in an altercation must leave…it is for my own safety (after all, buddy boy has his goons in the shelter) , and the peace of the place. Now I’m trying to get into Vancouver’s St. Elizabeth Shelter, which is mostly gay women…a better place for me. St. Elizabeth’s has no available beds right now and i’m not going to a downtown eastside shelter, no way, nuh-uh.
I’m also on the list for the refurbished Woodwards building downtown…a mix of market and non-market housing.
If anyone has ANY connections to either place, please let me know, cuz as we all know, it’s who you know that counts. Sucks, but that’s the way.
In other shelter news, the new one that opened in the West End is mixed men and women, no segregation…..you all sleep on mats on the floor together. No way I’m sleeping next to guys after being punched and kicked. This is the way Gordie Campbell is hiding the homeless….in totally inadequate ‘all new shelters’.
All this for the sake of the Olympricks.

Do you have a Twitter account? If not, I suggest you – and any friends who are homeless you have – get one. People on Twitter have sometimes been helped in getting connected, even assisted financially, when they’ve been hit by sudden bad circumstances. I can think of one case just recently of a woman who became homeless just after xmas.
I’ll tweet your post to my Twitter account. Every little bit of help counts, right?

Man, Scout, this is so shitty I don’t even have words. And I have NO connections there at all. Have you tried Shihtzustaff? I feel so helpless here in the Koots…I wish I could do more for you that just feel bad! Fucking Gordo!!!

his Scout….I am sorry to hear that you were attacked in that shelter, and that you are in such a situation. If I was there I’d have a little…um…chat with that bully.
I hope you find a better place soon. I also can’t believe that’s what they are calling “new” shelters. These people are shameless.
And yes don’t these fascist spectacles suck? I can’t believe that they blew a billion bucks just on security. That’s absolutely nuts. The G20 Summit is going to be held just a few block away from where I live so I also fully expect to get a good look at what Harper’s police state will look like.
Good luck !!!

Oh Scout, I can’t be of any assistance in that I have no such connections. So sorry.
Although I’m not on twitter either, I think Chrystal’s suggestion is worth giving a try.
I notice you have a donate button on your sidebar, why not put one up for yourself?
Thanks for your updates, even when the news is not great.

Scout,
I am so sorry things are so rough for you. If you haven’t already looked into this, is it possible that the Kettle Friendship Society may be of help. They have a housing programme.
http://www.thekettle.ca/programs.aspx
Click on the blue housing services button to the left.
Thinking of you and will let you know if I hear of anything else that may be of help.

Hey Scout, Unfortunately I am no help either as I am sailing about in Port Phillip Bay. But as always I wish you every happiness and a good turn of events. Good luck in securing a safe home. Austinx
