King Klein Goes Out Oily
One of the last throws of former Alberta Premier Ralph Klein was to unveil his portrait. “Breaking from tradition” and not sitting behind a desk, Ralphy boy instructed Edmonton artist Xin Yu Xheng to place the Rocky Mountains in the background (even though they can’t be seen from Edmonton), and include a symbol of Native Indian spirituality. This was done by placing a dream catcher in the upper right corner.
If Ralph’s words reflected his behavior he might have said something like this:
I love the mountains that’s probably where I should have sent all the welfare bums instead of just throwing change to them or offering a bus ticket to Vancouver. And having a Metis wife and binging with the Blackfoot and fucking their women is a side benefit of being made a chief. That spirituality stuff goes a long way if you fake it. But, ya know, I love my headress and treaties 6,7, and 8 are really on the white man’s side, where they should be.
Now it’s back to the St. Louis pub in Calgary. I gotta keep the ice in my veins somehow, may as well be with beer.

This time it’s a female…rules on the sidebar.
Honey, I’m Home!
Scout’s back, having been away an extra week due to car probs. However I bided the time well and saw moose, elk, beaver, hawks, eagles, coyotes. No bears, drat, but lots of rez dogs. My dog had to loose her west coast compassion and get tough…she was finally accepted by the pack.
I was a day late for the Lac Ste. Anne’s pillgrame but dipped in anyways….went to two powwows, made a bow and arrows and went porcupine hunting every nights. No, I didn’t get any, but all I wanted was some quills and you can usually find them under a tree they sleep in. Did manage to pluck a road kill one though there weren’t that many intact quills left. It’s all to learn the art of pre-contact ‘decorating’ to eventually make my own dance outfit. I’d like to dance woman’s traditional in a year or two.
Made it to three reserves and saw lots of friends and family. Yay! Took in a sweat lodge (oh so good!), and enjoyed the big prairie sky and looking at the Rocky mountains from a distance.
The ride home was gruelling as my vehicle wasn’t fixed properly and what should have taken 13 hours took four days. I was more then happy to get home, have a bath and sleep in my own bed. Gee, not long and I’ll be in Hawaii again sleeping in the back of my truck. I think there’s gypsy blood on my mom’s side of the family.
Hope my pic of a posing elk turns out, I’ll post it when it comes back. Meantime I’m out of the loop with the news!!!! Good to be back on the old computer too
