Jim Prentice Quits to run for Assembly of First Nations

chiefjimprentice.jpg
Ottawa’s Department of Redskin Affairs (and other extra-marital matters) has quit his post as Minister to run in the next Assembly of Fist Nations. Donning full regalia, Prentice held a press conference outside his backyard sweatlodge today.

“It cost me $200 to rent this outfit…all I ever wanted from the Ministry was a real buckskin outfit complete with headress, but would any Indian Band give me one? Huh? Huh? So now I’m running against Fil Phontaine because he’s gone from playing Ghandi on our payroll to being some kind of terrorist and insurgent, backing calls to blockade rail lines. There’s rumours a great-great-great-grandmother was half Mohawk or something like that. I’ll win them with humour too, check this:

What’s the definition of confusion? Father’s Day on the rez. Har har harharhar!

Why I’ll show that little s.o.b. Phontaine! Wait, am I taller than him? Nevermind, his days are numbered. Chief Terry Nelson and him are being very short sighted for the sake of their people. HOW do you think the Rez’s get their used clothes, rotten timber, green SPAM and eggs? Huh, tell me, hell, I’ll tell you…BY TRAIN!!! That’s right, the Purina Gravy Train!

Phontaine’s JOB is to keep the savages down…like why can’t he just play some nice classical music for Nelson, feed him beer, send him to a casino or something. How else can the government exploit resources but by keeping them calm with tainted fry-bread? instead I get this nonsense about June 29th being a big day of blockades and protests. Bah!

Man this outfit’s hot! I’ve gone commando too…heh heh, wait till the squaws get a peak of my little, er , I mean big one-eyed whitefish. Hi Ho, Silverado!

  1. Scout,

Seriously, this latest planned antic, messing with the rail lines, is dangerous and non-productive.

Someone is going to get seriously injured or killed. I am not amused by any of it. I worked on the railroad and this is not a Lionel train set…it is thousands of tons of steel that will simply not be able to stop.

Better have a meeting and come up with another plan because it is costing the First nations a lot off goodwill and support.

As to the ridiculous delays in Land Claim disputes, perhaps you can enlighten us as to why it takes so long…from the perspective of BOTH sides?

Phil Fontaine is playing Al Sharpton, and it will not work here in Canada. People are going to get very violent and that will not further anyone’s position.

Miltant response brings militant reprisals every time.

  2. bill, last year when the rail lines were disrupted in mantioba, warning was given a few months ahead of time with date, time, location etc.. if any other blocades were to take place i’m sure the same would be done.

there’s too many natives who are past being sick and tired of getting nowhere. fontaine is not a radical by any means. he is warning people about the climate….not saying, ‘ya, come on, let’s do it!!!’ and the way things are right now there would be no stopping actions by him. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2007/05/15/fontaine.html
    please read the article.

i think any terms of goodwill and support is an exteraneous thought now. there are those who support and those who don’t (native or non-native).

as for why the hold up in land claims? corruption, on both sides. the government wants native land for the exploitation of resources….in cases such as the deh cho they have even gone as far as ignoring the band’s saying no to fly in military and pronounce those who claim or promote sovereignty’ as terroists and insurgents.

in short, a protesting native can now be locked up in canadian gitmo…..or shot dead for even taking part in peaceful protest. given that climate, poverty, inadequate housing, what do some have to lose?

my suggestion is that c.n. union workers participate and organize a strike saying the will not run trains across band lands until serious negotiations or court action takes place with a third, international body participating…..this is the RULE OF LAW regarding native nations dealings with the federal government.

the canadian government is using it’s perceived george w. bush muscles to try anything they damn well please. why are they getting away with so much? because they can. because we let them.

if we were to stand in solidarity on june 29th maybe this would get to the hague…..about high time!

  3. I agree with you Scout. After the callous way this neocon thug government batted away the Kelowna Accord …and the fact that nobody in this country seemed to care about that…or the fate of the most oppressed people in this country..something has to be done. I think peaceful protest is good. I’m not worried about losing the “goodwill” of Canadians…because with goodwill like that who needs badwill? But it would be nice to avoid alienating ordinary folks as much as possible. Don’t let any freight trains through…but only delay passenger trains for half an hour at a location…and have native people board them and hand out educational material and explain their case.
That way you inconvenience them less but educate them more …and it’s still a big media story…

  4. hey simon….we’ll see how things pan out. we’ve gone backwards rather then forwards and the supporters are the supporters……there’s still plenty around caledonia (despite any inconveniences or blockades) who still support six nations……so it’s like it comes to one big test , because in the end, you’re either for or against……..there is no compromise .

i like the idea of handing out info pamphlets on the trains…..most canadians don’t know the horrors that have taken place and still take place….or the ‘blame the injuns’. when it comes down to brass tacks some people’s colours really show through…..and that’s that too many don’t really give a flying fuck.

  5. Hi.
Hears praying all Canadians recognize the issue of First Nations rights as EVERYONE’S problem.
Why should they stay at a negotiating table talking forever and a day while their territories are continually encroached upon, their land and water is poisoned and all the same problems of inadequate housing, health care et al continues unabated.
The only time anyone in a position to do anything listens is when Action is taken.
Stand firm for justice. Take responsible peaceful Action. If they/you/we dont …who will?
Every thing in this country is going to hell right now. From coast to coast. it sucks.
We are in the process of signing away our country’s sovereignty, water and other resources to you know who. If we havent already. Guilty of war crimes and I dont know what else.
I am so upset I can hardly think straight about it all these days.
All my adult life I have felt as an outsider, homeless in my country because of how our government is treating First Nations people and dishonouring treaties.
I am currently living on Vancouver Island and over the last 100 years colonial rule has taken down every stand of trees…except those protected by road blockades and Active Resistance. Ok, maybe there are a few parks left, but its not good enough.
The herring and salmon runs are very minimal and the fish farms …….AAAARRRHHHHHGGGGG

If we/you/they dont stop it and change the course of “progress” who will?
Is it too much to ask for clean drinking water???
How long do they have to wait???

  7. Scout,

I linked your site from Garth Turner’s, and hope you can illuminate those who visit on the issues. The MSM never does.

    Have a great weekend!
