Merry Monarch Festival

April 18, 2007 · 17 Comments

Who knows if my first attempt at posting a youtube will work!!!!

Anyways, this is from the Merry Monarch Festival which is THE event in Hawaii, it’s a hula event…people come from round the world to see this. The particular clip I chose is the closest to hula pre-contact. Unlike the hula you may be used to , this demonstrates the power and strength of the chanting and movements….all was not ‘wavy’ and ukele before the europeans….slowly it got watered down because the missionaries, of course , just didn’t think it apporpriate. Lucky things like this stayed underground so it could be revived when the time was right.

Don’t ask me about the blue and white the kane’s (men) are wearing….looks like some costumer got carried away :)

I’m back on track to the Hawaii I love and is abundance for all. Whew.

Aloha everyone , I’ll be back home May 1.
